Yesterday, Ike Ekweremadu, 60, a People’s Democratic Party member for 19 years who served as Nigeria’s deputy Senate president, and his wife Nwanneka Ekweremadu, 55 appeared in Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court after being accused of conspiring to set up or aid the journey of another person with the intention of exploitation, specifically organ harvesting.

After the hearing, the court denied Ekweremadu and his wife bail and ordered them to be remanded in custody and adjourned the case to a later date.

They were reportedly denied bail over claims that they trafficked a 15-year-old boy from Lagos to the UK with the intent to harvest his organ.

The boy’s passport

According to Arise TV, the prosecutors at the court said the Ekweremadus’ were being charged for bringing the 15-year-old boy from Nigeria to the UK with the claim that he was to be given a better life in the UK but was actually to harvest his organ.

The prosecutors told the court that the former Senate President procured a passport for the boy and claimed he was 21 years old but they discovered that he was 15 years old.

The minor at the center of the suspected conspiracy, according to the Metropolitan Police, is in foster care.

Removing body parts from a victim against their choice and frequently for money is called organ harvesting.

If the case of organ harvesting about Ike Ekweremadu was related to an adult, the consequences would have probably been lighter. UK does not joke with children.

If convicted on indictment, the person who committed the offence could be subject to: a. Imprisonment for a term not exceeding three years, or b. A fine, or c. Both.
