Nigerian Troops Rescues 2 Chibok Schoolgirls Who Have Been In Boko Haram Captivity Since 2014

Another lady believed to be one of the abducted Chibok schoolgirls has been rescued, the army said on Wednesday.

The Army said troops rescued the girl on 14th of June, 2022, while on patrol around Ngoshe local government in Borno State.

The girl, who was found with a baby, identified herself as Mary Ngoshe.

It is however not stated if the father of the baby is a Boko Haram member.

The Army wrote;

“Troops of 26 Task Force Brigade on patrol around Ngoshe in Borno State on 14 June 2022 intercepted one Mrs Mary Ngoshe and her son. She is believed to be one of the abducted girls from GGSS Chibok in 2014. Further exploitation ongoing.”

It would be recalled that the Islamic terrorist group Boko Haram kidnapped 276 majorly Christian female students aged 16 to 18 from the Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok, Borno State, Nigeria, on the night of April 14–15, 2014.

The school had been closed for four weeks because of the deteriorating security situations prior to the attack, but the girls returned to take their final physics exams when The incident happened.

57 of the schoolgirls jumped off the vehicles on which they were being transported after the event, while others have been rescued by the Nigerian Armed Forces on several occasions.

Hopes have been raised that the 219 remaining girls might be released, however some girls are believed to be dead.

One of the missing girls, Amina Ali, who was rescued in May 2016 said the remaining girls were still alive, although six had died.

Over 100 of the girls are still missing as of April 14, 2021, seven years after they were abducted.

In a similar vain, the Nigerian Army said troops, who were on clearance operations on 14 June 2022 intercepted another abducted girl from GGSS Chibok named Hauwa Joseph, who was kidnapped by Boko Haram on 14 April 2014. The intercepted Chibok girl and her baby are said to be in a military medical facility receiving treatment.

Troops destroy ‘ISWAP Terrorists’, market in Borno

In a related development, the Nigerian Army says its troops on Tuesday destroyed a supposed ISWAP Caliphate in Borno state.

In a statement shared on its social media handles on Wednesday, the army said a number of terrorists were also neutralized.

It said the operation was carried out by troops of Operation Desert Sanity in conjunction with CJTF, around Gurzum area in Borno State.

It added that a Boko Haram/ISWAP market located in the area was also destroyed by the troops.

The statement reads;

“Ongoing offensive onslaught by troops of Operation Desert Sanity in conjunction with CJTF recorded another feat on 14 June 2022 as several ISWAP terrorists were neutralized around Gurzum in Borno State. Terrorists market & camps were destroyed. Weapons and ammunition amongst others were recovered.”
