ISWAP fighters allegedly attacked and killed 25 scrap metals scavengers otherwise known as “Yan Ajakuta” in the North East of Dikwa Local Government Area of Borno state.
The victims were reportedly killed on Wednesday in Mukdala village, which is roughly 10 kilometers north of Dikwa town.
The victims were allegedly gunned down by ISWAP fighters on six motorcycles, each carrying three people with powerful weapons, according to Zagazola Makama, a Counter Insurgency Expert and Security Analyst in the Lake.
Takno Ibrahim, a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force, told Zagazola that about 25 bodies of the dead victims had been retrieved. He also noted that they were shot multiple times by the terrorists.
Some of the victims escaped with bullet wounds, according to Ibrahim, who added that the military, in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force, evacuated them to the general hospital in Dikwa town.
Meanwhile, Zagazola received video showing the bodies of the 25 victims who were shot at close range.
One of the survivors who appeared in one of the videos said; “they arrived on motorcycles and surrounded us before opening fire on us.”
“I played dead when they shot me. But I made it.”
Another eye witness, who requested anonymity, stated that he was at the farm when he heard motorcycles from afar.
He said he hastily took cover in the grasses when he heard gunshots from afar.
He stated “I found out afterwards that they killed a number of people.”
