The Nigerian Army have said in a fresh report an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by two (2) IPOB Terrorists has exploded, causing severe injuries to the two members of the outlawed group.
According to Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director Army Public Relations, the accident occurred along the Eke Ututu – Orsu road in the Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State.
Nwachukwu said the 2 IPOB Terrorists mistakenly stepped on the IED that they had initially planted while attempting to dodge the Nigerian troops who were on clearance operations in the area.
According to him, the outlawed group have severally planted IEDs along troops’ patrol routes in failed effort to bring harm to the troops.
The statement by the Nwachukwu reads;
“An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, Eastern Security Network (ESN) has exploded, causing severe injuries to two members of the outlawed group.”
“The incident occured along Eke Ututu – Orsu road in Orsu Local Government Area of Imo state on 1 June 2022.”
“The dissidents, inadvertently stepped on the IED which they had earlier planted along several routes in Orlu, Orsu Local Government Area, while they were attempting to evade troops’ onslaught against terrorists in the area.”
“The outlawed group have severally planted IEDs along troops’ patrol routes in failed effort to bring harm to the troops.”
“We urge all peace loving people of the South East to please inform troops of possible areas where these explosives have been buried for proper evacuation and disposal,” he said.
In recent times, Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) have been frequently and effectively been used by IPOB/ESN Terrorists and unknown gunmen against both government security forces and military installations in the South Eastern part of the country.
The terrorists have become increasingly active and dangerous especially in Anambra and Imo state.
Civilians are paying a heavy price for the escalating conflict across the region.
A few weeks ago, one Anambra lawmaker was kidnapped and beheaded by suspected IPOB Terrorists. Similarly, a northern woman and her four (4) children including an infant were killed in cold blood.
