Police in Delta have arrested suspected armed robbers/cultists in separate operations that covered Ibuza community, Ugboren community of Sapele Local Government Area, and along the Asaba-Benin Expressway in Okpanam.

The police also recovered several ammunitions from the the suspected armed robbers/cultists.

Police spokesman, DSP Bright Edafe, said in a statement issued in Warri, Delta, that the suspects were nabbed between the 27th and 28th of May, 2022.

He stated that while on routine patrol, an Anti-Crime Patrol team attached to the Ibusa Division, in conjunction with Ibusa Anti-Cult volunteers, arrested one Ekene Okonji’m’ a.k.a. “galaxy,” a notorious criminal known for terrorizing the Ibusa Community and its environs.

Upon searching the suspect, Edafe said one locally made cut-to-size short gun, seven live cartridges were recovered. Suspect is currently in custody and investigation is ongoing.

In another development, Edafe said the unrest in the oil-producing Ugboren Community in Sapele Local Government Area, Delta State, caused the Commissioner of Police, CP Ari Muhammed Ali FCIA, PSC+, to direct the DPO Sapele Division to conduct an intensive raid in the community to restore sanity.

As a result, on the 28th of May, 2022, at around 1330 hours, combined teams of Sapele Division police officers and troops from the Nigerian army’s 91 battalion conducted an intensive raid throughout the community, including their communal shrine.

According to him, during the operation, two FNC assault rifles were recovered while two hoodlums were apprehended. He further stated that measures have been put in place to forestall any further breakdown of law and order.

The third operation saw the Command Raiders Operatives intercept some hoodlums suspected of being cultists while conducting investigation activities along the Asaba-Benin Expressway in Okpanam.

When the suspects saw the team, they bolted, but the team tracked them down and arrested six of them, including Sunday Okafor Destiny, Stephen Osamota and four others.

One cut-to-size double barrel gun, six used cartridges, and one 9mm live ammunition were found. The investigation is still going on.
