The Edo Police Command announced on Thursday that a mother of 4 children had been arrested with a suspected human skull.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Kontongs Bello, disclosed this in Benin City while updating reporters on the command’s activities over the last two weeks.
Bello further stated that the command arrested 16 people in the state for various offenses within the time period.
The mother of 4 who was arrested with the alleged human skull had adviced other women not to get involved in the sale of human parts, no matter how lucrative it might be, since it is unethical.
The suspect, while narrating her level of involvement in the crime, revealed that she purchased the human skull for N8,000 from a cemetery attendant.
She claimed she sold the skull for N40,000 to a male suspect who contacted her for it.
The suspect, who is also divorced and sells traditional items, stated that the male suspect offered her an extra N5,000 for a good job delivery.
She claimed she sold the human skull to the male suspect in February but was caught in May despite asking him not to get her involved in any problems.
The Police had also arrested the male suspect, who was also a heavy duty operator.
In recounting his experiences, he stated that a herbalist he had met had asked him to get a human skull for sacrifice in order for him to be more prosperous in his profession.
The herbalist, who was also arrested, claimed that the male suspect contacted him and said he needed soap, and he suggested him to procure a human skull so he could do the rite.
The 42-year-old herbalist claimed that the male suspect approached him two months later with a human skull, which he utilized in the ritual.
Meanwhile, Mr Abutu Yaro, the Commissioner of Police in Edo, was cited as saying that the command would not allow criminal elements to take control of the state.
He was also quoted as adding that the command would do everything in its ability to defend the state’s people’ lives and property.
