The Nigerian Army have said that, In the early hours of Tuesday, May 10, 2022, troops from 93 Battalion have commenced a search and rescue mission for a personnel who went missing in action while responding to a distress call of a Bandits attack on Tati community in Takum Local Government Area of Taraba state.
The was revealed in a statement by Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, the director army public relations.
Nwachukwu revealed that after getting a distress call that Tati community in Taraba state was being attacked and burnt by suspected bandits, the army moved in quickly to safe the say.
However, while chasing the bandits away, troops fell into an ambush set by the bandits.
According to him, despite the ambush, the soldiers fought valiantly, killing four of the bandits.
Sadly, six brave soldiers lost their lives in the firefight, while one military personnel remains missing in action.
Nwachukwu therefore noted that a reinforcement team from 6 Brigade has been deployed against the fleeing bandits at Ananum village in Donga Local Government Area of the state.
The deployment has began yielding results as the reinforcement team allegedly killed two of the fleeing bandits, recovering one Ak 47 rifle, one pistol, one locally fabricated gun, two AK 47 magazines, 19 rounds of 7.62 mm special ammunition, 7 rounds of 9 mm ammunition, and three motorcycles from them.
He however said that the Nigerian troops are currently pursuing the bandits and will not stop until all missing personnel of the army have been found.
It would be recalled that yesterday, Zagazola Makama, a counter insurgency expert, reported that a Commanding Officer of the Nigerian Army who led the troops to battle against bandits in Tati village, Takum Local Government Area of Taraba state went missing in action during the confrontation.
The army urged Taraba state residents to be watchful and report any suspicious activity to security services.
