On Wednesday, an Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court sentenced Michael Oliseh, a 54-year-old pastor, to life in prison for defiling his friend’s 12-year-old twin children.
Justice Abiola Soladoye, who delivered the verdict, described Oliseh, the assistant pastor of Anointed Chosen Vessel Ministry in Okota, Lagos, as a “serial rapist” who took turns defiling the daughters of his friends.
Justice Soladoye held that the prosecution had proven the defilement accusations against Oliseh beyond a reasonable doubt.
“The defendant’s testimony presented him as a serial rapist who took turns defiling the survivors,” the judge added.
What an unfaithful and untrustworthy pastor, who had sexual intercourse with his friend’s children who were entrusted to his care in a blatant and bold manner. His behavior is unworthy of a pastor.”
The judge ordered that the convict’s name be submitted into the Lagos State Government’s sex offenders’ register.
Justice Soladoye also chastised the victims’ parents for their lack of discipline by sending the girls to live with the offender.
“Children should not be entrusted with boisterous people,” she stated. They should be entrusted to responsible people who have their best interests at heart. It is impossible to overstate the importance of proper parenting.”
According to the prosecution’s lawyer, Mrs Olufunke Adegoke, Oliseh committed the offenses in Ago, near Okota, a Lagos suburb, in November 2017.
Adegoke claimed the defendant defiled the girls after their father put them in his care and traveled to the village for a burial.
Oliseh then threatened them, claiming that if they told anybody about the sexual encounters, their father would lose his job.
She further said that Oliseh was apprehended by one of his neighbors after chasing one of the survivors into their compound and dragging her by her trouser. (NAN)
