No fewer than 4 armed bandits were reportedly killed by soldiers in Zamfara community while trying to rustle cattle.
Abdul Balarebe, who disclosed this in a tweet on Tuesday said the operation was carried out in Bakura Local government area of the state.
According to him, the bandits were killed in an encounter with the army who were supported by members of the civilian Joint Task Force known as “Yan Sakai” in Bakura Local Government Area of the state.
See his tweet below;
“The Bandits that attacked Bakura this afternoon have suffered a huge defeat by our great Military Men in support of our Civilian JTF ‘yan sakai. Several bandits were killed and all rustled cows, sheep’s and goats were also recovered.”
Late last month, no fewer than four people including a village head of the Yargeda community of the same Bakura Local Government Area were reportedly killed by bandits.
According to the report, the bandits, who were led by one Katare stormed the community and operated easily without any challenge from the security operativesfor almost 2 hours.
Zamfara is one of the states rocked by insecurity in recent months with cases of banditry and kidnap for ransom rampant.
The state government have tried on countless occasions to open up dialogue with the bandits in order to stem the violence but all to no avail.
However, following last month’s attack, the State Governor, Bello Mohammed Matawalle gave the locals the go-ahead to defend themselves against the bandits’ attack.
The Governor explained that running away frоm the bandits would not solve the problem, advising the locals to engage the bandits on fire for fire operations.
