Man Arrested, Charged To Court For Killing A Crocodile

A South African man is set to appear In court after being accused of killing a crocodile.

According to a press release by the South African Police Service, an information was received about a man who allegedly killed a crocodile at Budlwini area in Hluhluwe, South Africa, on April 9, 2022.

Upon receiving the report, police agents and game rangers quickly mobilized to the area, where they discovered the skeletal remains of a crocodile as well as other animals.

According to the investigation, the crocodile was shot and killed by the suspect on April 4, 2022, in the Budlwini region of Hluhluwe.

A 32 year old man identified as Sphamandla Mhlongo was arrested and accused of illegally possession of firearm and ammunition as well as possession of game meat.

Below is a statement as released by the South African Police Service;

“On 09 April 2022, police officers from the Hluhluwe Stock Theft Unit received information of a man who allegedly killed a crocodile.”

“Police officers and game rangers proceeded to KwaJobe in Hluhluwe where the team found the remains of a crocodile as well as the skeletal remains of various animals.”

“The investigation revealed that on 04 April 2022, the crocodile was shot and killed at Budlwini area in Hluhluwe. Police officers also seized a firearm as well as ammunition from the suspect.”

“Police arrested Sphamandla Mhlongo (32) on charges of unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition as well as possession of game meat.”

“He appeared before the Ubombo Magistrate’s Court on 11 April 2022 and the court released him on R500-00 bail. He will reappear in court on 06 May 2022.”
