Gunmen have reportedly kidnapped the wife and daughter of Plateau State Commissioner for Environment, Idi Bamaiyi.
Family sources revealed to Channels TV that the commissioner’s wife and daughter were abducted on Saturday morning when gunmen stormed the commissioner’s home.
They did confirm, however, that the incident had been reported to security agencies in order to ensure the victims’ safe return.
The perpetrators allegedly broke into the commissioner’s home in the early hours of the morning before abducting the victims in Gindiri town, Mangu Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
According to eyewitnesses, the attack lasted nearly an hour, during which time the gunmen blocked major highways in the area.
According to reports, Gunmen have in recent weeks attacked Gindiri town and other communities in Mangu LGA on several occasions, abducting a number of citizens in the process.
Gunmen allegedly abducted the district head of Mararaba Pushit in Mangu LGA on February 24 – the third time he was abducted in about three months.
The district head was reportedly abducted from his home while watching the news on that fateful day.
Minista Daput, the Chairman of Mangu LGA, who confirmed the unfortunate incident to Channels Television, said the kidnappers had not contacted anyone to state their demands.
He did say, however, that security forces, local youths, vigilante members, and hunters were already on the lookout for the abducted monarch.
