A Palestinian man identified as Mohammad Maroh Kabaha has admitted to killing an Israeli woman, Esther Horgen, by smashing her head repeatedly with a large rock.
The Salem Military Court sentenced Palestinian man, Mohammad Maroh Kabaha to life in prison and a fine of NIS 3.2 million on Sunday, for the gruesome murder of Esther Horgen on December 20, 2020.
Kabaha was found guilty in October 2021 after confessing and being indicted in February 2021.
Kabaha plotted the attack six weeks ahead of time, according to the indictment.
The reason he gave for the murder of the innocent Israeli woman was to exact revenge for the murder of his friend Camal Abu Wae’r, a Palestinian prisoner who became ill and died in custody.
According to reports, Kabaha allegedly went through a hole in the security barrier in search of a location to carry out an attack, and discovered a group of Israelis strolling through the Reihan Forest.
He noticed Horgen wandering alone in the woodland near the fence on December 20, 2020, while smuggling cigarettes.
She tried to run and scream when their eyes met, but he caught up to her after a 15-meter sprint and slammed her to the ground.
He then repeatedly smashed her head with a huge rock till she died.
He went home, showered, changed his clothing, and ran into the hills after that.
Within days, Israeli security forces had tracked him down and arested him.
The Horgen family and their counsel, former IDF West Bank head prosecutor Maurice Hirsch, applauded the court judgments but chastised the Palestinian Authority, accusing it of inciting Kabaha to perpetrate the murder.
Kabaha was also given a further three years in his sentence.
Horgen’s husband, Benjamin, said after the punishment, “I am satisfied that this is finished and I will no longer have to be in the same room with this awful terrorist.”
