A mother of five has been arrested in Ogun State for reportedly pouring petrol on her 10-year-old daughter and setting her on fire.
Aisha Tijani was reportedly arrested on March 20 after a report was filed at Mowe divisional headquarters by one Moroof Ayinde, who claimed that the suspect, who lives in the same house as him, poured petrol on her daughter and set her on fire.
He went on to say that Tijani was unhappy because the victim took a phone that was seized by her mother from one of her siblings and handed it over to her sibling.
Following the report, DPO Mowe division CSP Folashade Tanaruno and other detectives swiftly went to the scene and nabbed the culprit.
With severe burns all over her body, the victim was taken to a local hospital, from where she was referred to Olabisi Onabanjo Teaching Hospital for treatment.
Tijani, who claimed to have been estranged from her children’s father, told the police that she didn’t know what had happened to her when she lit her daughter on fire.
The state police command’s spokesperson, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the arrest, saying that the commissioner of police, CP Lanre Bankole, has ordered the suspect’s immediate transfer to the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for further investigation.
