Bandits In Nasko, Magama Local Government Area of Niger State have reportedly killed a Divisional Police Officer (DPO) identified as Umar Digari, and six other people.
According to the Punch Metro, one Jiamu Dangwere, a resident of the attacked community spoke to its correspondent over the phone and said that the criminals arrived on over a hundred motorcycles, drove straight to the police station and killed the DPO.
He said that no one from the community had been kidnapped, but that the bandits killed five other members of a vigilante organization during the operation.
“They didn’t carry anyone; they just went straight to the police station and killed these people before fleeing,” he explained.
Dangwere went on to say that they had heard rumors that the bandits had traveled through other communities, and as a result, locals began to flee their homes for fear of being attacked.
“We’ve been hearing that they’ve been following here or there,” he said, “so people began to flee the communities until they came and attacked.”
“They passed through other villages, and people from other villages saw them. They had to run for their lives while also making phone calls to others in villages ahead of them to warn them that the bandits were approaching.
“I wasn’t at home when I got the call that the bandits were heading near Nasko, so I told my family to go to Salka.”
Bala Kuryas, the Commissioner of Police, confirmed the attack, claiming that the bandits had strayed into Nasko from Kebbi State.
The DPO and six other individuals were killed in the incident, according to the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs, and Internal Security, Emmanuel Umar.
“Unfortunately, this attack claimed the lives of the DPO, two additional police officers, and four members of the vigilante organization,” Umar said.
