According to a former Ukrainian Ambassador to Australia, a senior Russian military commander was killed in a combat on the outskirts of Kyiv in eastern Ukraine.
Colonel Andrey Zakharov, the Russian military commander of a tank regiment, was killed outside Kyiv yesterday, according to the report.
Russia has not responded, but if verified, he will be the country’s third high-ranking military leader to be killed in battle.
Olexander Scherba, a former Ukrainian Ambassador took to his verified Twitter page to share the news with his followers.
See tweet below;
“The guy to the right, #Putin’s colonel Andrey Zakharov, a tank regiment commander, was eliminated yesterday near Kyiv.
Death to #Russian invaders!”
It comes as Moscow’s forces advance ‘within a few miles’ of the capital’s outskirts.
According to analysts and witnesses, the battle for Kyiv is already underway, with Russian tanks pushing to within a few miles of the city’s outskirts, though initial assaults to the west and east of the capital were repelled yesterday, indicating that Putin’s men face a long and bloody campaign to take the capital.
The Kremlin launched two strikes on Kyiv on Wednesday, one through the besieged western city of Irpin and the other through the eastern suburb of Brovary, with video showing a column of tanks being bombarded with artillery and forced to turn back in a deadly ambush.
