According to a relative who took to his Twitter page to announce the demise of the deceased, Adetayo was approached by a DSS operative, and he was in the process of bringing out his ID to properly identify himself when he was shot in the stomach by the operative.
He further claimed in a series of tweets that DSS operative had threatened the family to be silent about the incident.

“I lost a brother today. He was a Soldier.
“No, Boko haram didn’t kill him, Bandits didn’t. He didn’t die at the war front.
“He was shot in the stomach by DSS in Lekki, when he attempted to bring out his ID card.
“Again, Nigeria failed its own. My God!
“He was so full of life. An amazing soul to the core. He was always smiling.
“I can’t process the fact that I won’t see him ever again. Living in Nigeria is equivalent to walking on a time bomb set to explode the next minute.”
He was in the intensive care unit but passed away today,” he stated.
Maj. Olaniyi Osoba, spokesman for the Nigerian Army’s 81 Division, confirmed the soldier’s death and said a joint investigative team has been formed to figure out what led to the shooting.
“It is true that one of our soldiers was shot in a contentious incident in the general region of Lekki.
“He was airlifted to the hospital for medical treatment, and a collaborative investigation is underway to determine what led to his shooting.
“We lost him this morning, sadly. Let me tell you that when the inquiry is completed, appropriate action will be done,” he stated.
