Nigerian Air Force bases serves as training centres for the Nigerian Air Force. Additionally, the Nigerian Airforce popularly refered to as ‘NAF’ also uses these bases for its drills and operations. Most Airforce bases in Nigeria also has military Barracks that houses NAF Personnels and members of their families. There are also churches, mosques, schools and health care centres within the bases.

How many Air Force bases are in Nigeria?

The Nigerian Air Force has bases in over 17 states across the country. Like I said earlier, the essence of these bases apart from housing the aircrafts and offices also cater for the welfare and needs of its personnel.

These facilities are often open to the host communities. Through these facilities, the NAF contributes to human and national development. Furthermore, job opportunities are also provided for citizens in some of the ancillary services thereby improving the local populations’ living standard.

Duties of the Nigerian Airforce

  • To achieve a full complement of the military defence system of the Federal Republic of Nigeria both in the air and on the ground.
  • To ensure a fast versatile mobility of the Armed Forces.
  • To provide close support for the ground-based and sea borne forces in all phases of operations and to ensure the territorial integrity of a united Nigeria.
  • To give the country the deserved prestige that is invaluable in international matters.
  • Enforcing and assisting in coordinating the enforcement of international law, conventions, practices and customs ascribed and acceded to by Nigeria relating to aerial or space activities in the Nigerian airspace.
  • Coordinating and enforcing all national and international air laws acceded or ascribed to by Nigeria and
  • De-lineating, demarcating and coordinating all aerial surveys and security zones of the Nigerian airspace

List Of Airforce Bases In Nigeria

1- Nigerian Air Force Base, Abuja –

The Abuja base of the Nigerian Air Force is situated at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria.

2- Nigerian Air Force Base, Kaduna –

NAF base in Kaduna is situated in the Old Kaduna Airport in Kaduna State.

3- Nigerian Air Force Base, Port Harcourt – Rivers State –

Nigeria Air Force Base Port Harcourt is located at Obasanjo bypass, off Port Harcourt Aba expressway. Read more on the base.

4- Nigerian Air Force Base, Benin – Edo State –

The Air Force Base in Edo is situated around Airport road in Benin city. The Benin airport is used to carry out its exercises.

5- Nigerian Air Force Base, Maiduguri – Borno State –

Maiduguri NAF base is situated at Kashim Ibrahim Rd, Maiduguri, Borno State. The base has played a major role for the Nigerian Air Force especially in the long unending war against Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists.

6- Nigerian Air Force Base, Minna – Niger State –

This is the second NAF base in Niger and its situated stregically within the Minna Airport.

7- Nigerian Air Force Base, Makurdi – Benue State

The NAF base in Makurdi is sitted within the Makurdi Airport.

8- Nigerian Air Force Base, Kano Kano State –

9- Nigerian Air Force Base, Enugu – Enugu State

The Nigerian is sitted within the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu state.

10- Nigerian Air Force Base, Jos – Plateau State –

The Nigerian Air Force Base in J town is located at 330 Nigeria Airforce Base Jos, Plateau state, Nigeria. Jos city also play host to one of the best military secondary schools in Nigeria, Air Force Military School (AFMS), Jos. Though they are situated in different locations.

11- Nigerian Air Force Base, Ipetu-Ijesha – Osun State –

The Osun State NAF base also play host to the recently inaugurated Commando Village. The base, which was nicknamed the 209 Quick Response Group base is situated in Ipetu-Ijesha, Osun,

12- Nigerian Air Force Bases, Shasha – Lagos State –

Nigerian Air Force Base, Ikeja, Lagos.

The Nigerian Air Force Base Ikeja, Lagos, is situated not to far away from the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos.

13- Nigerian Air Force Base, Kainji – Niger State –

The Kainji NAF Base sits in the western state of Niger, at the south end of the popular Kainji Lake. The base was recently upgraded to house a number of Nigerian Air Force (NAF) A-29 Super Tucano light attack aircrafts.

14- Nigerian Air Force Base, Katsina – Katsina State.

The Nigerian Air Force 213 Forward Operating Base (FOB) is situated in Funtua Local Government Area in Katsina, State.

15- Nigerian Air Force Base, Yola – Adamawa State –

The Air Force Base in Yola, Adamawa state, has played a major role in fight against insurgency in the Northeastern part of Nigeria. The base was the Air Component Headquarters of Operation Lafiya Dole. It also houses an oxygen plant where Liquefied Oxygen is being produced. 

16- Nigerian Air Force Base, Mando – Kaduna State –

Here’s anothe Air base located in Kaduna state. The base is located around in Mando area in Kaduna.

17- Nigerian Air Force Base, Unguwan – Kaduna State –
