2 ISWAP Fighters Who Lost Their Way Back To Their Base Surrender To Nigerian Military (Photos)

Two ISWAP fighters have reportedly surrendered to the Nigerian Military after finding it difficult to return to their Lake Chad Base as they lost their way during the journey.

In a series of tweets by Zagazola, a counter insurgency expert and security analyst in the Lake Chad region, the two underage ISWAP fighters reportedly lost their way after deserting the war front during an encounter with Boko Haram insurgents in Yarimarigana village, Sambisa Forest area of Borno State.

However, due to the heavy fighting between the two groups, these two ISWAP fighters, fearing for their lives, took to their heels and fled the battlefield.

But unfortunately for them they couldn’t trace their way back to their Lake Chad base where they came from.

This gave them no other option than to surrender to troops of the Nigerian Army.

Last week, a source claimed that there was serious infighting between the dreaded Islamist militants.

According to the source, at least 10 ISWAP fighters including their top Commanders were executed by its affiliates, Jama’at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da’wah wa’l-Jihad faction of Boko Haram in the North East of Lake Chad.

Despite the reported killings by Boko Haram, Iswap has been seen as the strongest jihadist group in Nigeria since the death of Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau last year.

Since then, thousands of Boko Haram fighters have surrendered both to the military and reportedly to Iswap.
