Two men were paraded yesterday by the Nigerian police after 2 AK47 Rifles and 51 rounds of live ammunition were found concealed in a bag of beans.
The suspects are Badong Audu aged 48 years old of Namu Village in Plateau State, and Chimezie Okolie aged 44 years old, of Ekwusigo in Anambra State.
Speaking to newsmen CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the police public relations officer, force headquarters, Abuja, said the suspects were arrested following credible intelligence of an impending arms movement from Jos, through Nasarawa state, to the Eastern part of the country.

He said Badong Audu was captured with two AK47 rifles and 51 rounds of live ammo concealed in a bag of beans by FIB-IRT Operatives on April 26th, 2022 at Namu Village, while Chimezie Okolie, the supposed receiver, was arrested in Nasarawa State, where he was waiting for the rifles and ammunition to be delivered.
In a related development, the police also recovered a DAF tanker carrying 45,000 litres of premium motor spirit (PMS) which was earlier hijacked at gunpoint and the occupants abducted in Saminaka Village, Niger State.
CSP Adejobi said, while acting on a tip-off, the FIB-IRT in collaboration with Petroleum Tanker Drivers’ Association Suleja Depot, mobilized and intercepted the criminals in Lambata Area, Niger State, where the truck was recovered and four suspects were arrested.
Adejobi said that, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, psc (+), NPM, fdc, while commending the FIB-IRT operatives for the successes recorded, assured citizens of the Force’s commitment to dutifully following up on established cases, conclusively investigating such with a bid to bring all persons found wanting to justice.
He also promised that all the suspects will be arraigned in court on completion of investigations.
