14-year-old IDP (internally displaced person) stabbed and killed herself after being allegedly raped by an humanitarian worker identified as Hussarf Abdurauf.
According to a report by The Punch, Hussarf Abdurauf, 35, a member of an international non-governmental organization, has accused of raping and killing Aishatu Adamu, a 14-year-old IDP, in Maiduguri, Borno State.
The humanitarian worker in Maiduguri’s NGO warehouse summoned Aishatu, who was accompanied by three other girls, to assist him in washing his cloths.
People started hearing screams minutes after the victim entered the suspect’s room, according to the suspect’s neighbor who begged not to be identified.
“Residents saw the teenager in a pool of blood when they got closer and peeped through the window after several attempts to open the door proved futile,” he said.

“On that day, the 3 girls were wandering around looking for menial jobs to do for a fee when he (the suspect) summoned them to assist him in washing his clothes,” he explained. When Aishatu entered the one-room apartment of the suspect to get the cloths, he instantly shut the door behind her, causing the room to erupt in cries.
“The other 2 friends who were waiting for her to come out with the clothes went up to the guy’s door and began pounding on it, but he refused to open.”
“We saw them struggling with the door and decided to join them in knocking, but he refused to open. So we peered through the window, and lo and behold, the 14-year-old IDP was lying in a pool of blood on the floor.”
When the case was reported to the Gwange Police Station, the suspect claimed that the minor killed herself, according to Lucy Yunana, a human rights activist.
“While at the police station, I confronted the humanitarian worker, who identified himself as Hussarf, and he said the girl threatened to kill him after he raped her, but she ended up killing herself because, according to him, when she saw blood in her private parts, she said she couldn’t face her parents with it, so she ended up stabbing herself,” she said. When I inquired why he didn’t intervene, he claimed he had no idea she had stabbed herself.”
Yunana claims that when she challenged the perpetrator about his story not adding up, he tried to bribe her.
ASP Sani Shatambaya, the state Police Public Relations Officer, said the incident occurred around 10.30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 18.
“Hussarf Abdurrauf raped Aishatu Muhammed Adamu in his room located in 303 Housing Estate,” ASP Sani said.
In the process, the victim began crying out loudly, attracting the attention of neighbors, who gathered at the door, forcing the suspect to open the door while the victim cried “my virginity.”
“The victim is said to have hurriedly stabbed herself with a knife inside the room.” The culprit has been apprehended and is being held in police custody.”
